Jeffrey Lord Let Go By CNN After Tweeting Nazi Salute

CNN has formally ended the tenure of pro-Trump political commentator Jeffrey Lord after he tweeted “Sieg heil!,” a Nazi salute, to the president of the left-leaning media watchdog group Media Matters for America on Thursday.

“Nazi salutes are indefensible,” a CNN spokesperson said. “Jeffrey Lord is no longer with the network.”

Lord, who has been criticized since joining CNN for being unfairly in the tank for the president, has been lashing out at MMFA for calling for an advertiser boycott of Sean Hannity’s Fox News show.

Writing for The American Spectator on Thursday, Lord called MMFA and organization president Angelo Carusone “anti-free speech bigots who, in typical fascist style, make it their mission to shut down speech they don’t like.”

Carusone had taken issue with a Lord column from Wednesday, and told him on Twitter that his piece “is bullshit and filled with lies.” This conversation then led to the exchange in which Lord tweeted the Nazi salute at him.

Before the ax came down on him, Lord wrote: “Mr. Carusone is not happy. I am delighted he is not happy. I am even happier that he has put his fascist spirit out there in re-printable form.”

While Lord has been a bit more prominent, CNN also recently lost another Trump surrogate in Kayleigh McEnany, who left to be a spokesperson for the Republican National Committee. Lord had joined the network back in August 2015.

“CNN now has about a dozen Republican commentators who tend to support the president’s views, along with other Republicans who are critical of the president,” according to CNN’s report on Lord’s termination.
