Nearly a year ago, waves of rouge, vermillion, scarlet, and crimson made their way down the catwalk and designers very much declared that red was the new pink. Since then, it has been a colour adopted for both street-style stars and those on the red carpet, with Dakota Johnson most recently demonstrating that red is still the colour to beat

Johnson (and stylist Kate Young) created what looked like a makeshift jumpsuit by pairing high-waisted wide-leg trousers and a mock-neck wool-blend top with mid-length sleeves. Both of the Carolina Herrera garments were totally arresting, thanks to their candy-apple red colour, and the actor layered them under a long black Loewe trench coat with notch lapels.
As if the look weren’t already luxurious enough, Johnson also carried an enviable 'It' bag, the Bottega Veneta Sardine top-handle. Her handbag appeared to be the Acorn variation, complete with that signature hornlike golden handle, of course. To round out the outfit, Johnson sported Loeffler Randall platform sandals in a cacao hue, along with wide statement sunglasses.
This isn’t even the first time Johnson has made a fashion statement in red in the past week. Just a few days ago, the star visited The Graham Norton Show, where she paired red tights with matching Paris Texas pumps to contrast her black Fendi dress. She also wore a statement partly-sheer black dress and boots for an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers.
