Britney Spears‘ new memoir, The Woman In Me, has sold over 1 million copies in the U.S. in its first week, reports AP.

Released on Oct. 24 by Simon & Schuster’s Gallery Books imprint, the celebrity autobiography had already landed on Amazon’s No. 1 Best Sellers book list before it was released. In a cover story for People, the 41-year-old star revealed her reasons for releasing the book and shared excerpts detailing her childhood, from her days starring in The Mickey Mouse Club alongside Timberlake, Keri Russell and Ryan Gosling (who she nearly co-starred with in The Notebook) and returning to her Louisana hometown; her head-shaving incident; and more.

“Over the past 15 years or even at the start of my career, I sat back while people spoke about me and told my story for me,” she told People. “After getting out of my conservatorship, I was finally free to tell my story without consequences from the people in charge of my life.”
